Update on horrible head on train collision accident on Friday Sept. 12Th in Los Angeles, CA. is texting to blame?????
That is just one of the questions being asked and just one of the things under investigation. Evidence and witnesses may point to the Metrolink engineer texting and running a red light moments before the collision. The warning given that another train was coming down the same track and the track needed to be switch.
However investigators also say the engineer on the Metrolink commuter train was in the middle of a 11 1/2 hour split shift and they are looking into that as well.
The fact of the matter is whatever the reason they find, the engineer of the metrolink never put on the breaks, never switched the track and ran right through the red light.
This head on collision involving a Metrolink train and a Freight train on Friday had been called the worst accident in Southern California history and the deadliest rail disaster in the the U.S. in 15 years. 26 people dead including the Metrolink engineer and 135 people injured out of those 40 are critical.
People just do not stop and really think how important and how careful they really need to be. Whether you are flying a plane, the engineer of a train or driving a car or bus, you have people that put their lives into your hands and most the time their family and children as well.
My heart goes out to all of the families and to the victims recovering!!!!!

I've been following this since Friday. Text messaging sounds like the most logical cause, and the evidence so far is pretty damning. Makes me not want to ever ride on a train or a plane again. To think you are putting your life in the hands of someone you don't even know and God only knows what they are doing when they should be at the controls. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. I can't imagine what they must be going through. At least if it were weather or something out of a human's hands, it could be chalked up to a freak accident. But this doesn't sound like that. I know the investigation isn't over, but that's how it looks - stupid human carelessness.
It is so very very sad and when you look at it so unnecessary and could have been prevented, such a waste of life and such heartache for the families.
Yes this is so tragic, also just to think that he was probably texting. What! their thinking they can multitask when lives are at risk.
I know Jazz, it will be a very awful awful thing for the families, the injured and Metrolink, if he was texting or even from a lack of rest because of the the shifts they had him working.
Even truckers are only allowed to drive so much time because of the danger of either falling asleep at the wheel or not making a good judgement calls when in a critical situations. They should probably make anyone who has the responsibility of lives, work only one shift so as too keep them as alert as possible. This accident may invoke laws regarding this. I know when accidents of this nature take place (deaths)(human error) that their arises a frontrunner to carry a bill or legislation to correct this kind of problem. Its just to bad that they probably lost someone before they took the initiative. My heart also goes out to these accident victims.
Very good point Hashemisno1, thanks for youe comment and input.
