Skateboarders and Police Do Not Mesh Well

*
Skateboarders and police in alot of cases I do not think the two mesh well together.

Something they are doing in our neighborhood is telling the kids they can not have their wheels leave the ground. Are you friggin kidding me!! What in the..............

For real, they are saying they can skateboard in certain places, but their wheels can not leave the ground. Then what in crap is the point in skateboarding???

I have never had a problem with skateboarding or most skateboarders, I think it gives the young kids of our day something to do, exercise, goals to get better for competitions and to try to get into competitions and something that they can find in common with others.

Most kids I have known that skateboard, are pretty cool and they do their thing and try to stay out of peoples way. I think the few that get rowdy, destroy property, are lude and crude, act like they own where ever they are at the time, have caused stereo typing of typical neighborhood skateboarders.

I find this sad for both the kids and the police. Why the police you ask? Well I think it has put the police in a hard spot, getting calls from people they have to respond to that are complaining. Accusing certain skateboarders of things they probably had nothing to do with, but happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and so on.

Now don't get me wrong I have seen a few skateboarders that should have had themselves drug home by their ear. lol

I have also seen where I thought the cops were a bit excessive in the situation, do to a call. I have seen people that are making the call be so freaked out and pin the blame on the wrong person or just plain freak out because OH MY Gosh!! there is a skateboarder in my parking lot of my business.

Skateboarders are told so much where they can't skateboard and not told where they can. I think more skateboard parks being built needs to be addressed. Cool ones not some rinky dink thing. I think if we want to keep our younger generation out of trouble, give them places where they can do something they love.

Very good post, good opinions and views. I agree. If it were not for the several skate parks we have here, I know the kids would be forced to hang out where they shouldn't and cause alot more trouble. You should send an email to your city commission about this. One person CAN make a difference! Just look at Elle in Legally Blonde! lol.

Thanks you, I am glad you liked the post and you make a very good point that sometimes 1 person can make a difference.
Sometimes I feel like Elle Woods, lol.

I have a good wholesome teenager. He really likes the sport. Keep talking to your congressman about keeping those parks open or building one. The kids get themselves in trouble when their not skating in a skate park. Lot of them are destructive. Right now we're going through trying to change the image of a skate park. Very Gotham and these are middle age men.

Exactly it Casey, we need to keep or get those skate parks.
I have seen skateboarders range in age from 4 years old to adult.
I agree with image too and that is why they are being stereo typed, but the skateboarders who are destructive or don't care about the image, set it for them all it seems.

I agree with you. It's kinda hard for both the cops and the kids.

But the thing is some skateboarders in my country, well, they can cause quite a bit of a nuisance by actually skateboarding in walkways of commercial buildings and on work days at that.

But overall, skateboarders are a cool lot :D Thanks for dropping by my blog. Do drop by and check my other blog when you have the time at Anything Goes!

So true here too Spiff, I have seen where skateboarders have decided to skate on the sidewalks or walkways where there are businesses and shoppers and that is never a good idea. If I was a business owner, I would have to say that would definitely not make me happy either. I think that is another good point why skate parks are important.

By the way you are very welcome, I enjoyed your site and thank you for visiting as well.

I used to live in a rather upscale town and when more and more kids started to skateboard the city got together and buit a really cool skatepark with the kids help and money from the community. When I left this town you could find almost every kid around at the park. How cool and keeps them out of trouble. I think it take the people of a community getting together and talking and working as one. A lot can be done. Don't forget to include the kids. After all they are not stupid and know what they want.
Great post.
Cheers

Thanks Fish Whisperer, I know I should address our community, but I am not quite sure how to get that ball rolling, I will look into it.
That is so cool your community did that and your right, when the communities work together with the kids, great things happen.
