Did You Know Sept. 19th Is A Holiday???

*
Yes folks it is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Well of course I knew it was, or maybe not.

This is no joke, this my friends is the real deal and has been so since the late 90's, observed on Sept. 19 th.

It started by two men from Oregon, Mark Summer and John Baur, they had a vision! What I can only assume began as a joke between two buddies, while they played racquetball and having fun talking as pirates has now become the real deal. They began telling all their friends and so on until what was happening made it to..............

Yep, well known and respected syndicated columnists David Barry, who wrote on Sept. 8th 2008 a detailed article on what the two Oregonians were up to, that is when things really took off. You can tell by reading David's article that he found it both amusing and great at the same time.

According to talklikeapirate.com this will be observed this year by the US, South East Asia, Australia, South Pole and the Middle East, at least that's the ones they know about.

Some people here and over seas will be doing this in an effort to raise money for charities.

So if you see a person dressed as a pirate talk to him/her in the pirate language we all know and love.

My favorite pirate speaking part in a movie, was Richard Dreyfus in Jaws, while they going out to kill the shark. It's when he gets angry with the owner of the boat they are on for barking orders at him. I love that part in the movie!!!

I had forgotten about that part of the movie...good memory, you're right. That was a good scene. Weird things people come up with, eh? Did you know Hallmark has a whole section of cards for this? I had no idea it existed. Thanks for letting me know. If I had known yesterday I would have tried it on my customers over the phone at my job. lol.

LMAO Lakelandmom, that would have been the funniest thing, I would have given anything to be a fly on wall if you had done that to your customers. I had no idea hallmark had a whole section of cards for this, it is interesting.
I love Richard Dreyfus in any movie, but that part in Jaws with him will stick with me forever.
