Email alert warns of 'the worst virus ever' circulating in the form of an attachment labeled 'POSTCARD' or 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK'.
THIS ONE IS FALSE A HOAX!!!!
Now there are real viruses out there that are very similar to the hoax and it is important you know the difference. There are almost as many virus hoax that go around as the real thing, almost. :)
Here are some examples to let you know false e-mails:
1. If your e-mail alert warns of "The worst virus ever" or "The
biggest virus coming" or similar, more than likely it is false, but do check into it just in case.2. If alert says that McAfee, Norton, Snopes and so on are gearing up for this, It is 99.9 % false. These companies are not going to waste their precious time sending out messages about whats coming, they are going to be working over time to secure their programs and tweak them to stop the virus.
3.Just because you got this e-mail from someone you know, does not mean anything. First did they actually write and send it to you or did they forward it? Also there are programs that can get your addresses in your e-mails and your e-mail looks like it came from someone you know. I had that happen to me.
4. E-mails saying it will eat your hard drive, burn a hole in your hard drive disc and so on, FALSE. The real viruses going on right now can cause a lot of issues, but usually they send you to web pages that contain malicious maleware or equivalent, not killing your hard drive or completely destroying it.
5. Alerts that say this is confirmed by Snopes, Norton, McAfee or other such names, is false. If you follow the links below I have added or type in the sites yourself you will see they are not confirming this, they are saying it is a hoax as well.
6. Bottom line if you are unsure and unable to find out for sure who sent you the attachment you are getting in the form of an e-card from Hallmark or any other company, don't open it!!
Use these links listed below:
about.com to see exactly what the hoax e-mails look like.
snopes.com to see the real virus threat, that is similar to the hoax.
I hope this will help you!!

Thanks for the heads-up Laurie...That's all I need after just reinstalling windows about 2 weeks ago. Scam or not. Who wants to even think about that crap?
I hear you,
I just had my computer crash recently and did a post on it. We lost everything on my computer including all my pictures on there I hadn't taken time to back up. Thinking between the security running on my computer and the internal fail safe on my computer, it would be enough. It was a very tough and hard lesson learned to say the least.
You are very welcome, glad I could help.
